Engaines Primary School and Nursery

Achieving great things together

A message from the Headteacher Ms Jackie Irwin

Dear Parents and Carers,

A very warm welcome to Engaines Primaryand Nursery School's website. We are so proud to have been judged by Ofsted as a Good School in July 2016.

It is a great privilege to be the Headteacher of such a thriving, busy school community where high aspirations and a caring family ethos are at the heart of what we do. I am in the 5th year of my Headship here and am proud to say that that our school has gone from strength to strength.

“The headteacher has a clear and aspirational vision for the school. This is shared by an able leadership team and by governors who know their school well and are committed to improvement.” (Ofsted July 2016)

We continue to encourage improvements in teaching and learning. Our main focus for the year is mathematics, as it was this area that pulled down our reading, writing and maths combined score in the Year 6 Sats tests. We continually look at strategies to improve the results and work closely with our children and their families, to ensure they are supported well. For instance, we have recently taken on 'Maths Whizz', which is an on-line maths resource that the children can access at school and home, to improve their maths understanding and knowledge.

“Pupils’ progress and outcomes are improving at a good pace, particularly in reading and writing. There is a trend of improvement across all subjects.“ (Ofsted July 2016)

Our school vision is “Achieving great things together” – we want all of our pupils to achieve high standards academically alongside achieving personal goals in everything that they do, for example in sport, the arts or leadership skills.

Our beautiful, rural setting enables our children to learn in calm, peaceful and awe-inspiring surroundings. In the Early Years Foundation stage, outdoor learning is an integral requirement of the curriculum; our children enjoy an extensive outdoor setting in which to learn and play together.

“Early years provision is good. Children are taught well. Standards attained by the end of the Reception year have risen markedly over the past two years.” (Ofsted July 2016)

We are so pleased to now have a nursery, so can provide education for our children from the age of 2. This opened in January 2017 and is a thriving, exciting environment in which children begin their school journey.

Our Cooperative learning approach underpins all that we do and reflects the beliefs of all pupils, staff and governors here at our school. Collectively we build our pupils’ aspirations and give them the skills and learning experiences to achieve them. This approach to learning is an 'Area of Excellence' with Challenge Partners (awarded in March 2017).

“Pupils are keen to learn. They are proud of their school and behave well. Parents rate the work of the school highly and feel very involved in their children’s education.”

 (Ofsted July 2016)

We are fortunate to receive tremendous support from our parents and carers. The home/ school partnership is one of exceptional importance to us as we firmly believe that this is the key to ensuring successful learning for your child.

On arriving at Engaines Primary School and Nursery, you immediately notice the excellent learning behaviour of our pupils and the passion, enthusiasm and friendliness of our staff- this is commented on by our many visitors. We believe that your child's journey to learning is lifelong and we feel privileged that Engaines Primary School and Nursery is where this very important journey begins.
