School Governors Profiles

Sally Cornish
I have been a Governor since July 2014 and my role is that of the Local Authority Governor. I am a local Government Officer at Tendring District Council and my background is predominantly in policy, governance and strategic planning. I am passionate about education and on that basis I look forward to working with the dedicated team of Governors on Engaines journey towards excellence.
Hazel Funnell
I have lived in the village of Little Clacton for over fifty years. All three of my children and two of my grandchildren attended Engaines Primary School. I have always been active in some way in the community and joined the Board of Governors at the school approximately 15 years ago, serving for ten years as Chair. Although I have now stepped down from this position I remain an active member of the Governing Body.
Sarah Aldorino
I have been a Parent Governor at Engaines for the last 10 years, which is a role I enjoy immensely. I live in Little Clacton and have 3 children, all of whom have attended Engaines. I have recently taken on the role of ‘learning mentor’, which has been extremely rewarding for myself and the children involved. I am very passionate about Engaines and look forward to seeing our school achieve the good/outstanding Ofsted it so deserves.
Sarah Crabtree
I am currently the teacher representative on the Governing Body of Engaines School. Part of my role is to provide a link between staff and governors as well as giving a teaching staff perspective on issues discussed. Being a Governor is interesting and informative. We work as a team to make decisions that will continue to move the school forward.
Laura Parker
My name is Laura Parker and I have been a co-opted Governor since Summer 2014 I have lived in great Clacton for many years , and when I semi-retired I wanted to take an active role in the community. I have spent my career in the NHS having held senior nurse management positions both in the acute and community settings which included managing health visitors and school nurses. I believe the experience I have gained in my working life would be an asset to the school. It is very rewarding to belong to the Governing Body responding to the responsibilities and challenges involved, and working with so many people to ensure that the pupils at Engaines School have a secure environment in which to develop and achieve their potential.
Ann Engle
I have been a Bursar at the school for over 10 years a role which I thoroughly enjoy and have been involved with the Governing Body for 8 years. As a co-opted Governor I intend to play a more active part in moving the school to becoming “good” and in time an “outstanding” school.
Melanie White
I have been a Governor since May 2015. Although I worked for the NHS for 35 years I was closely associated with education in my role as a paediatric Speech and Language Therapist. I have lived in Clacton for over 50 years and attended Engaines myself in year 6. My particular area of responsibility as a Governor is how the extra monies received by the school to help with disadvantaged children’s education is spent. If this money is used wisely to the children’s benefit it will boost Engaines target of becoming an outstanding school. I look forward to helping bring this about.
Malcolm Harmer
As an ex soldier and having spent over 20 years in construction I am well versed in contractual and management strategies. I now head up my own business and will use my experience and skills to ensure the best service possible from the PFI contractor as part of our drive to good and outstanding.
Colin Steele
Following a 10 year spell in engineering I pursued a career in Essex Police rising to the rank of T/Assistant Chief Constable. I retired from policing in 2012 and am now a Director of a small digital publishing company providing online training solutions to the education and other key sectors. My key skills include strategic leadership, budget management and people management.
