School Council - What is the School Council?

Our School Council and Learning Council
Engaines Primary School Council consists of representatives of each class, from Year 1 to Year 6 and are voted in by their class peers. The Council meets weekly with our headteacher, to express views and make decisions.
The School Council help us interview people for vacancies in school, by doing a tour with prospective candidates and then feeding back to us about what they thought! They are at the moment helping us to find out what our school children want in their quiet area on the playground and also what fund-raising activities we can do.
Representatives of the School Council are very much active citizens. Councillors have attended trips to the Houses of Parliament and we believe passionately that they are fundamental in moving the school forward.

Staff are always keen to know the views of our pupils. Because of this, we have introduced a Learning Council, from Year 1 to Year 6. These children were put forward by thir class teacher, because of their excellent attitude to learning. They meet regularly with our headteacher and staff to discuss lots of different issues related to teaching and learning. So far they have been involved with looking at our school environment in relation to supporting learning. They have also recently talked about feedback marking with thir class teacher, to find out what is best for moving thir learning on. Next our headteacher will be looking at the curriculum with them, to ensure that all subjects are covered well and are giving our pupils lots of rich learning opportunities. It is very important to us to gain the opinions of our pupils, who afterall are th msot important people in the building!
